I don’t have many dresses. Which stinks because I love wearing them. When my husband showed me the fabric for this dress at Golden D’or I knew I had to make something that would show off the print. It definitely screams fall to me with the olive color and the mustard and blue flowers.
I went over many patterns but eventually settled on this one after I saw Mimi G show how to hack it into a dress here. A friend of mine let me borrow this pattern and I’ve made it 4 times since, but had never known how easy it was to turn into a dress. I made a muslin first because with me being small, A-line can look big and tent like sometimes. The muslin turned out great, I was in it all day because of how comfy it was. For the wearable final I added a black rayon crepe lining to the inside (see bottom for other modifications).
There are so many ways to wear this dress, I used a leather belt from a jacket I have to cinch the waist for versatility. I can’t wait to wear this in the fall with a long sleeved shirt underneath and some boots!
Modifications:
- This fabric was sheer, almost see through, a little heavier than chiffon. I added a black rayon crepe lining to it and understitched the neckline and armholes.
- The back of this pattern originally calls for an opening at the top and a frog closure. I just sewed the full seam all the way up so I can just pull on the dress. No closures or anything.
- I shortened the bottom ruffle by half.

Did you alter the neckline? In the pattern it looks really high. That has put me off making it as I need comfort first! I’ve never tried altering a neckline though.

I did lower the neckline a little! All I do is take a ruler and mark an inch lower around the edge of the neckline and then cut! It’ll definitely make the pattern more appealing for you. Hope thay helps! π
