I’ve never been much of a jean collector. 3 pairs of jeans and I’m set. However since discovering Mimi G’s Simplicity #8655 pattern (found HERE) I’ve been wanting ALL the statement pants lately.
Another shortage in my closet is cardigans, which I realized not having in Texas is a slightly big problem. The changing weather always calls for layers. What better layer than a thick, white, sweater knit oversized kimono jacket (found HERE)?
When I started my green and white capsule collection these two pieces quickly became favorites of mine. Easy and simple yet chic, classy and timeless, this look was thrown on during an overcast day with a basic black cami. These two pieces are also staples in the green and white capsule collection I’ve recently finished, more information on that to come.
Modifications and style information found below as usual!
Now let’s talk about these jeans! I like my jeans long and flared so these pants totally spoke my language. I’m a fan of the hem hitting the floor look but in my next pair I think I’ll be extending the hem so they’re longer length with a pair of heels.
These jeans are high-waisted on the original pattern however they went up very high on my stomach when pattern fitting. I decided to make them as is and sure enough they hit my chest when sitting. I ended up taking three inches off the top, not adjusting the darts, and then adding the pockets in the same position just lower for the lessened height.
This pattern doesn’t have front pockets. I wanted this to be my go to pair of jeans so I added patch pockets that I self drafted onto the front for more functionality. In hindsight I think I could’ve went a size down due to the stretch, but they still fit well and comfortably on me.
Oversized Kimono Jacket –
I didn’t add a lining to the jacket as it originally calls for. The fabric was already thick so I didn’t feel it necessary. I also tacked the collar down in select spots so it would stay open.
